If your HP computer does not meet the eligibility requirements for the Windows® 7 Upgrade Option Programme from HP and your PC is currently under HP warranty, instructions are provided below to guide you through the upgrade and installation of Windows 7.
A copy of Windows 7 must be purchased separately to start this process.
If your computer is eligible for the upgrade programme and you have ordered a Windows 7 Upgrade Kit, please follow the detailed instructions that came in your Upgrade Kit.
WARNING: BEFORE performing an upgrade or installing Windows 7, users must back up all user data (files, photos etc.), applications and settings. Failure to do so may result in the loss of your data.
Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 will require a custom installation, and your system must meet the minimum requirements
. The Microsoft Windows® 7 Upgrade Advisor
can help you determine which features & editions of Windows 7 will run on your computer.
Before performing a custom installation, you will need to back up all user data (files, photos etc.), applications and settings, and create a copy of the system recovery discs. Software and drivers should be updated so that devices will work with Windows 7.
Computers running Windows Vista meet the system requirements for Windows 7. However, Microsoft still recommend downloading Windows® 7 Upgrade Advisor
to help find potential issues related to hardware, devices or programs that might affect the installation of Windows 7.
* Systems may require upgraded and/or separately purchased hardware and/or a DVD drive to install the Windows 7 software and take full advantage of Windows 7 functionality. See Microsoft
for details.
